Be a part of the creative
and collaborative spirit that exists in the world
We are always looking for editors, designers, and illustrators to help us produce the Sierra Journal. Outside of submitting work for publication, there are two opportunities to get involved with the publication-- AAD 53 and English 22.

AAD 53: Publication Design II
The Sierra Journal is designed, marketed, and distributed by students in Applied Art & Design (AAD) under the guidance of Professor Vincent Pacheco. As one of the few remaining printed literary journals in California, students are given real-world experience as they design the publication from scratch each year, meet important milestones and deadlines, consider real world budgets, and work directly with a print shop.
As a student-run publication, students in AAD 53 develop the look and feel of each edition and work in teams to edit submission content, consider page sequencing, and develop a unique theme for each issue.

English 22: Creative Publication
In this course, students read, select, and edit literature submissions for publication under the guidance of Professor Chris Hall. Students collaborate with faculty and authors to
Identify, define, and apply clear criteria--including cultural, social, political, and critical contexts--to evaluate and select literary works from multiple genres (fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and drama).
In ENGL 22, students learn and employ industry standard practices regarding organizing, tracking, and editing submissions; communicating with authors; and submitting final proofs for publication.
